Protest against coaching business
JAMALPUR: District Corruption Prevention Committee yesterday formed a human chain in front of Jamalpur High School in the town protesting coaching business, publishing of note books and guide books, reports BSS.
Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Land Rezaul Karim Hira was present at the human chain as the chief guest.
Deputy Commissioner Ahmed Kabir presided over the programme. Additional Deputy Commissioner Rasel Sabrin, Deputy Director of Anticorruption Commission Reva Halder, district Awami League Vice-President Syed Atiqur Rahman Sana, district Education Officer Mukhlesur Rahman Akanda and District Corruption Prevention Committee member Mukhlesur Rahman spoke on the occasion. The participants laid emphasis on raising mass awareness among the guardians to stop coaching business, note books and guide books. They also called upon the teachers to give the students lessons in the classes properly.
Youth found dead in Dinajpur
DINAJPUR: Police recovered the body of an autorickshaw driver from a culvert adjacent to Teghora Ali pump area of Biroil upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Moinul Islam, 28, son of Ali Uddin of Bajnahar village.
Locals spotted the body of Moinul with his hands and legs tied up in the morning and informed police.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Dinajpur Abdur Rahim Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy, said Abdul Majid, officer-in-charge of Biroil Police Station.
2 killed in Narail road accident
NARAIL: A woman and her granddaughter were killed in a road accident at Dattapara Bus stand on Narail-Lohagora road in Sadar upazila yesterday afternoon, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Manoja Begum, 45, a resident of Bagdanga village and her granddaughter Sadia, 3, daughter of Mashiur Rahman of Sadar
upazila. Officer-in-Charge of Narail Sadar police Anwar Hossen said the accident occurred when a Kalnaghat bound truck hit a three-wheeler Easybike carrying the woman and her granddaughter.
The bodies were sent to Narail Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem. A case was filed in this connection.
Robbers loot valuables

Robbers looted gold ornaments, money and other valuables valuables from a house at Debiganj Thanapara village in Debiganj upazila on Sunday.
Local people said a gang of robbers stormed into the house of Habibur Rahman, a teacher of Sakoa Degree College, by breaking windows and looted valuables which included 16 tolas of gold ornaments, Tk 30,000, a mobile phone set and clothes. Police have not been able to arrest the robbers nor recover any of the looted valuables.
Police said they are trying hard to arrest the robber gangs.
SME fair ends in Narsingdi
NARSINGDI: A seven-day Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) fair organised by District Administration and SME Foundation ended on Shilpakala Academy premises on Monday evening, reports BSS.
On the occasion a concluding function was arranged where Chairman of The National Revenue Board Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan addressed as the chief guest.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Shubash Chandra Biswas presided over the function while Managing Director of SME Foundation Shofiqul Islam, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Mohammad Baitul Amin Bhuiyan, Chairman of Narsingdi Sadar Upazila Parishad Monzur Elahi addressed as special guests.
President of District Chamber of Commerce Abdullah- al Mamon, Principal of Abdul Kader Mollah City College Dr Moshiur Rahman Mirdha and Chairman of Dream Holiday Park Pobir Shah also spoke at the function. Stressing the need for increasing investment in SME sector, the chief guest said successful promotion of the sector could be the effective means of alleviating poverty in the country and generating employment opportunity to accelerate economic growth.
21 arrested in Habiganj
HABIGANJ: Police, in separate drives arrested 21 persons, including 12 wanted accused, from different areas of the district in last 12-hour ending at 9am yesterday, reports BSS.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nazim Uddin said they were picked up from different areas of the district on different charges. Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.
