East Zone amass huge 735-6 dec

Zakir Hasan’s career first double hundred coupled with centuries from Yasir Ali, Alok Kapali after Liton Kumar geared up Islami Bank East Zone to put Walton Central Zone under runs-mountain as they piled on 735 for six before declaring their first innings in Khulna yesterday.

Despite Abdur Razak’s six-for, BCB North Zone compiled 408 against Prime Bank South Zone at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi.

Resuming the second day on 332-3, Islami Bank East Zone posted the third highest of 735 at Khulna’s Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium to add a massive 403 on the board at the cost of three wickets.

Earlier, Dhaka Division made the highest 756 against Rajshahi Division in 2013-2014 season eclipsing all the previous record, while South Zone blasted 749 against Walton Central Zone in 2016-2017 season.

Even thought overnight batsman Tasamul Haque fell for 60, Zakir Hasan converted his overnight 156 to 211 before being caught. The young batsman faced 320 balls and hit 23 boundaries during his 444-minute stay at wicket.

Zunaid Siddique smashed century for North Zone after Mizanur Rahman, who blasted 106 on day-1. Zuniad brought up his 12th first class century resuming on 82. The opener finally struck a patient 137 off 238, whereby he bashed a round dozen fours and two sixes. A couple of half centuries from wicketkeeper-batsman Dhiman Ghosh and spinner Taijul Islam that bolstered their first innings total.

Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak, who chalked up his 31st five-for or more first class wickets, gave away 107 runs to claim six wickets.
