Sports Reporter

Professional Football League sensation Saif Sporting Club will face a huge challenge today when they will take on TC Sports Club Maldives in the AFC Cup preliminary round.

The match will take place at the Bangabandhu National Stadium at 3pm. The match will telecast live in BTV and  ATN Bangla.

Saif Sporting, who earned the feat to play in the Asian top level football competition of the AFC at their first appearance in the country’s highest ranked soccer, the professional league, will have a golden opportunity to make another sensation.

Saif Sporting left behind some of the country’s traditional giants, including Mohammedan Sporting Club had the opportunity to play in the top stage of Asian soccer competition and now it has become as an acid test for them to prove them.   Today it will be the home match for them when they will play the away match at TC Sports home venue in Male on June 30.

But Saif will have to cross the today’s stiff hurdle taking the home advantage to go in an advantageous position before the away match.

However, in the pre-match press conference yesterday, both the coaches and the captains of Saif and TC Sports expressed their confidence about winning the match. Ryan Northmore, the coach of the home team Saif Sporting Club, also said that they are well prepared. “The preparation had gone well, as it is a challenge here for us at home and same as at the away ground.”

Ryan Northmore, the English coach replying to a query about inclusion of players from Chittagong Abahani said, “It is an advantage to take challenge, no doubt they are good player.”

About the adjustment of the foreign players, included from Mohammedan Sporting Club, Ryan said, “Foreign booters are educated, so it will not problem to adjust.”

Jamal Bhuiyan, captain of Bangladesh team has taken the match as an important for Saif and as well as for Bangladesh as they are representing the country.

Nizam, coach of the Maldives’ team said, “Regarding the game, definitely we are ready to take on Saif SC and obviously like to repeat the result we did in previous time in the Sheikh Kamal God Cup Football tournament, Chittagong,” said Nizam.

Nizam’s speech meant that he wants to keep up the winning streak of his team in Bangladesh, when they won the trophy of the Sheikh Kamal Gold Cup football tournament last year organised by the Chittagong Abahani Club.
