Md Manzoorul Kibria, who teaches Biological Science in Chittagong University, told UNB that “The dolphin belongs to a very rare species, only 1100 to 1200 dolphins of such kind exist in the whole world, among them in Halda River we have got about 200 to 250 of them.”
“May be the dolphins are dying due to rubber DAM of Bhujpur and random injuries from the propellers of sand lifting dredgers while the dropping of water level in the winter season might also have caused the deaths of the poor animals”, he said.
