The High Court (HC) yesterday ordered the authorities concerned to evict illegal structures erected along both the banks of Rupnagar Canal in the capital, reports BSS. The court also ordered to keep a walkway for the city dwellers along the canal, keeping its main map intact.
"A High Court division bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order, asking the authorities concerned to submit a report on execution of today's order by February 25," Deputy Attorney General Tapas Kumar Biswas told newsmen.
Dhaka district administration on November 21, 2017, submitted a report on Rupnagar Canal, saying in spite of being freed of illegal occupation, the capital's canals are getting occupied repeatedly. The report also suggested dredging the canals, planting trees and constructing walkways along the banks.
