MP’s son found dead in capital

Aneek Aziz, the 27-year-old son of Advocate Mustafa Lutfullah, the lawmaker from Satkhira-1, was found dead in NAM Bhaban on Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka yesterday morning. The police recovered the hanging body in the morning. The body was later sent to the morgue of the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. Ganesh Biswas, officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, confirmed that the body was taken to Suhrawardy Medical College. Police said Aziz’s body was found hanging on a wire from a ceiling fan in the bedroom. No other injury mark was found on his body.

The police are considering the possibility of suicide. His family, however, could not provide any information as to why Aziz could have committed suicide. “The cause of Anik’s death can be understood only after the post-mortem,” Mustafa Lutfullah told reporters. Dr AM Selim Reza, professor of the Department of Forensic Medicine of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, said, “We suspect that he committed suicide. There is no stain on his body.” The body was taken away from the hospital at 1pm.

Mofizul Haque Jahangir, personal assistant to the MP, told The Independent, “At night, after dinner, everyone went to sleep. In the morning, everyone woke up, but Anik did not. Receiving no response from Anik, his room was unlocked with a spare key, and he was found hanging from the ceiling fan.”

Jahangir added that the body will be taken to Palashpole in Satkhira Sadar after the autopsy. He will be buried there. Advocate Mustafa Lutfullah is a leader of the Workers Party of Bangladesh. He was elected the MP from the Satkhira-1 (Tala-Kalaroa) constituency. Aziz is the only son of Lutfullah, who also has a daughter. Police confiscated laptops and mobile phones from the house, according to the MP.

Anik was studying for the IELTS test from Dhaka with the aim to go abroad for a diploma in Electrical Engineering. Earlier, he had completed his diploma from the Khulna Polytechnic Institute. He was also conducting photography courses in Pathshala School.

On Saturday night, Anik was in NAM Bhaban with his sister Aditi Adrita, and one of the family’s drivers. MP Lutfullah and his wife Nasrin Khan Lipi were in Satkhira. They returned to Dhaka on Sunday morning. Various people gathered at the local residence of the MP in Satkhira after hearing about the incident. The family, however, declined to talk about the incident.
