Masudur’s first
On a day when Sri Lanka fought against Zimbabwe to keep them alive in the tri-nation series, Masudur Rahman, known as Mukul in the Bangladesh cricket, made his umpiring debut. He however got hardly any torrid period or took any hard decision on his first match and looked confident. But until the 29th over of the first innings of Zimbabwe who batted first, he didn’t get any chance to raise his finger. And when he got, it was Malcolm Waller who failed to read a googly from Lakshan Sandakan and offered a catch behind the wicket. So Masudur Rahman opened his account with Waller.
Taylor’s first fifty after three years
Brendan Taylor is considered as one of the finest batsmen ever Zimbabwe but he was disturbed about the way the Zimbabwe Cricket Board was running. So he signed a three-year Kolpak deal with Nottinghamshire although he made his decision slightly open-ended, not entirely ruling out the possibility that he might one day return to the fold. And he did just that. Before he left Zimbabwe team, his last three scores were 50, 121 and 138. After his return to the side, the first two scores were 24 and 38 and then yesterday he made 58, indicating that he is gradually getting his form which will be good for Zimbabwe.
Malinga missed
Due to fitness issue and other problems, Lasith Malinga wasn’t playing the tournament but he was missed the Lankans severely. In a match that was a must win game for Sri Lanka, the bowlers did pretty good job but they missed Malinga at the death overs because no bowlers could execute the yorkers perfectly. Nuwan Pradeep delivered some yorkers but those weren’t as deadly as Malinga. It allowed Zimbabwe lower order scoring with somewhat ease as they added almost 60 runs after being reduced to 140 for six.
264 balls, 153 dots
Zimbabwe batsmen relied on boundary for most of the time which was reflected the amount of dot balls they played. They were bowled out for 44 overs which meant they played 264 balls. What would make their coaching staffs worried that they played 153 dot balls. They played scoring shots in 111 balls in which they scored in total 198. But if they could rotate the strike intelligently they could have made the score bigger.
