Hiroshima Nagasaki

I fondly wait every Friday to get a dose of the Weekend Independent magazine. I have been an avid reader ever since it was first launched. I particularly enjoy the interviews and travel related articles in. I would like to thank the team for highlighting several national and international serious issues. Last week, I went through an article on the Hiroshima Nagasaki tragedy.  The deadly bombings killed at least 129,000 people. The practice of making nuclear weapon is going up gradually, though some countries have taken initiative to reduce the devil’s weapons. I think the mass destructive bomb made by man must be removed by the wisdom of man. We should make our beliefs stronger with one another.

Interview

I have been a regular subscriber of the Weekend Independent for a long time now. I was going through the interview, tête-à-tête with Sayma Rahman by Sheikh Iraj and found the interview to be an interesting read. I love the fact how Sayma Rahman is pursuing her dreams and encourages other women to do the same. She pointed out the facts that how Bangladesh is a land of opportunities when it comes to internet. Also she talked about the support she received from her family, and I believe the support of the family is something very important for both boys and girls in order to pursue their dreams.  In the end of her interview, she mentioned how she would like to start something of her own; I would like to wish her all the best for her future endeavors.

Lesson in History

As a student of History myself, I always encourage my son to polish his knowledge on history. Being an aficionado of films based on historical events, my son and I watched several documentaries and movies together. But somehow whenever I pass on a history book, I noticed that he somehow dodges it with an excuse. But last week, when he handed me the issue of the Weekend Independent, he seemed intrigued with the cover title of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He requested that after I finished reading it, I would give it to him for a read. Unable to control my excitement, I gave him the first chance and I could see that while reading, he took great enthusiasm. He even started asking me questions. I would like to thank the Weekend Independent team for coming up with topics that evokes keen interest for all ages. Looking forward to next week’s issue.
