Lucky Air will launch an international air route directly connecting Kunming with Jeju Island, South Korea, on September 10. In addition, Kunming-Nanning-Osaka route will open on September 13. Today, with more and more air routes connecting Yunnan with foreign tourist cities, Yunnan is ushering in its own era of the aviation network.
Since the establishment of the Kunming-Paris air route -- the first intercontinental service out of Yunnan -- South and Southeast Asian passengers began to fly to Europe via Kunming Airport. Statistics show that the airport is handling an increasing number of transit passengers, and foreign passengers account for 25 percent of all passengers on the Kunming-Paris route. This year, two more intercontinental routes have been opened to connect Kunming with Moscow and Vancouver. The Kunming-Moscow route is the first of its kind between Yunnan and Russia, and the Kunming-Vancouver route has turned Kunming into a transport hub between Asia and North America. These routes will have a positive impact on improving Yunnan's aviation network, expanding the coverage of international routes and highlighting the role of Kunming as an international aviation hub. Yunnan is ushering in an era of "big traffic" and "big tourism".
The Kunming-Jeju Island route, the only air route between the two places so far, enables passengers to fly non-stop between Kunming and the Korean island in a matter of three and a half hours. It runs three flights per week, scheduled on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
In the first half of this year, the Yunnan Airport Group added 25 routes (15 domestic and ten international) and introduced six new airlines, increasing the number of Yunnan air routes to 392. In terms of outbound international routes, besides the three intercontinental routes to Paris, Russia and Canada, Yunnan now has connections to Seoul, Pusan and Osaka in Northeast Asia; Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Surat Thani , Phuket, Samui, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Vientiane, Yangon, Hanoi, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Luang Prabang, Mandalay, Krabi, Naypyidaw and Langkawi in Southeast Asia; Calcutta, Dhaka, Kathmandu, Colombo, Male and Jeddah in South Asia; Dubai, Medina and Beirut in West Asia.
