To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the world counter-fascist war, a large-scale cross-border historical and cultural self-driving event entitled “Revisit the Stilwell Road” was officially launched in Kunming International Convention and Exhibition Centre recently.
The event is designed to rely on the geographical advantages of Yunnan to promote the transport with bordering countries and strengthen the economic cooperation in the Great Mekong Subregion. Meanwhile, it also allows participants to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way, better understand the local culture and remember the history. The Yunnan-Myanmar Road and the Stilwell Road have both made great contributions in World War II.
The self-driving fleet will call at Yunnanyi Ancient Town, Dali, Songshan, Huitong Bridge, Tengchong and other historical sites, enter Myanmar via Wanding port, arrive in Calcutta of India and return to China by road or air. In the self-driving process, the participants will also visit veterans and compete in the Stilwell Carrier Pigeon Challenge. Ge Shuya, a historian on the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in Yunnan will participate as the chief history advisor and a professional planning team will follow the implementation of the event.
