Bangladesh Under-19 team tasted their first defeat in the ICC U-19 World Cup when England beat them by seven wickets yesterday at Queenstown. The defeat however mattered little as the Bangladesh have already confirmed the quarter-final berth with the victory against Canada and Namibia.
Opting to bat first, Bangladesh were bowled out for paltry 175 in 49.2 overs, a score that England overhauled with 123 balls to spare, making 177
Bangladesh, having opted to bat, found themselves 27 for four within the first nine overs. A 94-run fifth-wicket stand between Afif Hossain (63 off 85) and Aminul Islam (31 off 64) provided the semblance of stability before they lost four wickets for 14 runs.
However, Hossain was eventually dismissed by off-spinner Euan Woods (3-26) and Bangladesh slumped to 175 all out in the final over.
England too suffered an early wobble when they began their chase, with their third wicket falling with only 49 on the board. But Brook, following his unbeaten 59 on Monday, slammed an 84-ball 102, which featured 13 fours and three sixes, as he put together a match-winning 128-run partnership with Woods, who was two short of a half-century when the game ended.
Harry Brook hit the winning runs to bring up his century as England maintained their all win record in the group phase.
