Bagerhat: A court yesterday sent 14 Indian fishermen, who were arrested from Fairway Buoy area of the Bay of Bengal on Monday for illegal intrusion in the Bangladesh maritime boundary, to jail, reports UNB.
Judge of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court passed the order when police produced them before the court, said sub-inspector of Mongla police station Manjur Elahi.
Earlier on Monday, members of Bangladesh Navy detained the 14 Indian fishermen along with a trawler from the Fairway Buoy area when they
were fishing in the Bangladesh water territory. On Tuesday night, the Bangladesh Navy handed them over to Mongla police and filed a case against them.
The arrestees hail from various parts of 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, India.
However, the Bangladesh Navy claims a good number of Indian fishermen intrude into the Bangladesh maritime boundary with big trawlers for fishing.
On August 3, Bangladesh Navy arrested 42 Indian fishermen along with three trawlers from the same area of the Bay of Bengal.
