Police stations to be digitised to identify crime

BSS

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan yesterday said all the police stations would come under digital technology for identifying crime and its perpetrators, reports BSS. "Police Headquarters, Central Investigation Department (CID), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) are working to identify the crime, its perpetrators and bring them under law through using the digital technology," said the minister while responding to query placed by opposition lawmaker M Rustam Ali Farazi of Pirojpur-3 at the house.

Under the technology, the digital connectivity has already been completed at  600 police stations under the Info govt-2 project, he said, adding that connectivity with 1000 police stations are now underway under the Info-govt-3 project. "Digital technology use would be possible at all the police stations across the country in future if the programme would come to end," said the minister. The police stations are now being taking assistance from CID, DMP and PBI to identify the crime and its perpetrators, said the minister.

For digitalization, Lawful Interception Cell (LIC) has been formed at Police Headquarters, he said, adding that the cell is being used for identifying the crime and its perpetrators through mobile tracking. The CID has also set up a modern digital forensic lab and IT forensic section and digital evidence is being examined by using the IT forensic software at the lab, he added.

Even the crime related information of the alleged perpetrators is being preserved in police station through using the Crime Data Management System(CDMS) software, said the minister.

Suspect Identification and Verification System (SIVS) database has been prepared including the biometric information of the alleged criminals which would help police to know the whereabouts of a particular criminal when he would arrest or whether he involve with fresh crime after coming in bail from imprisonment, he added.
