The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has published the photographs of the two persons killed in the raid on a militant hideout at Nakhalpara on January 12. Mufti Mahmud Khan, director (legal and media wing) of RAB, told The Independent: "We're absolutely sure that the pictures we published are of unidentified militants. We confirmed this by physical examination. If anyone gives us any information, we'll investigate their details. Both are around 20 years of age." The photographs were found from the profile of the militant whose identity was released before, he added. Yesterday noon, the media division of RAB published the photographs of the two militants. Earlier, RAB identified Mezba Uddin, one of the three suspected militants killed in the Nakhalpara raid. RAB confirmed the identity of Mezba Uddin as his fingerprints matched with one in the national identity database. Lt. Colonel Imranul Hassan, commander of Rapid Action Battalion-3 (RAB-3), said Mezba Uddin was the son of Enamul Huq and Tahmina Akhtar. His fingerprints matched with the one on the national identity (NID) card. Later, Mejbah Uddin's wife, brother, father and mother were brought from Comilla to Dhaka for interrogation. On January 13, RAB filed a case with Tejgoan police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act 2009 in connection with the Nakhalpara raid.
On Friday, A RAB team raided "Rubi Villa" near the Prime Minister’s Office around 2am. A group of militants was staying on the fourth floor of the six-storeyed building at west Nakhalpara. Two firearms, three suicide vests, three improvised explosive devices and some detonators were seized from the hideout, said the elite force.
Mufti Mahmud Khan said the militants had opened fire and hurled a grenade targeting the RAB forces. RAB men fired back. During the exchange of fire, three militants were killed and two RAB men sustained injuries. During the raid, RAB found two ID cards with the same picture, but different names. In one ID, the name was mentioned as Jahid from Comilla and in the other as Sajib from Brahmanbaria. A caretaker, Rubel, was detained for interrogation. He said a young man named Jahid wanted to rent a room on the fifth floor of the Nakhalpara house on December 28.
