5 students arrested in Ctg

Police in a drive early yesterday arrested five college students from the port city and Fatickchchari upazila in the district in connection with the murder of Adnan Isfar, a ninth grade student of Chittagong Collegiate School. The police also recovered a knife which was used for the murder.

Adnan Isfar, 15, son of Andan Akhtarul Alam, an LGED engineer of Khargachhari and a student of the Collegiate School in the city, was stabbed to death by 10-15 youths in the city’s Zamal Khan area on Tuesday. The victim was also grandson of former president of Chittagong North District Awami League Nurul Alam Chowdhury.

The arrestees were identified-- Moin Khan, 18, son of Nurul Islam, Sabbir, 18, son of Md Osman, Muntasir Mustafa, 18, son of Mustafa Kamal—the trio are HSC second year students of the city’s Hajera Taju Degree College, Abdullah Al Sayed, 18, son of Abdus Sattar and HSC second year student of Islamia Degree College and Eklas Uddin, 18, son of Md Muktar and a student of grade-10 of city’s Holy Flower School.

Of them Muntasir Mustafa was nabbed from the city’s Badurtala area and the others were nabbed from Fatickchchari upazila in Chittagong.

The arrestees were activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of the city’s Gani Bakery area. They are followers of Youth and Sport Secretary of Chwakbazar Ward unit Awami League Abdur Rouf and were arrested from the home of Md Faisal, BCL president of Somitirhat Union of Fatickchchari Upazila Parishad.

In a press briefing yesterday at Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Headquarters SM Mostain Hossain, deputy commissioner (South) said there was a dispute between the arrestees and the victim over playing cricket.  

A group of miscreants stabbed Adnan in front of Chittagong Ideal School and College.

 The boy ran for his life and collapsed in front of Dr Khastogir Government Girls' High School in Jamal Khan area. Being rescued, he was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station Jasim Uddin said they collected a video footage which showed the schoolboy was running in an injured condition while some others were chasing him.

Following the incident, a case was filed with the police station.
