Deposition of 4 executive magistrates recorded

The first additional district and sessions Judge, Abul Mansur Miah, who is also the acting judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of Tangail, on Wednesday recorded the deposition of four executive magistrates and a police constable in the sensational  Rupa Khatun gang rape and murder case. The magistrates are senior judicial magistrate Md. Golam Kibria, Md. Aminul Islam, Shamsul Alam and Komol Kanti Das. They said the five accused had made confessional statements which were recorded under Section 164. The next date for examining other witnesses has been fixed on January 21.

The medical officer, Dr Saidur Rahman, who conducted the autopsy, appeared before the court on Tuesday. He said Rupa died after being injured in the head. He added that Rupa was gangraped before being killed. Constable Hannan and local residents Kishore and Mannan also appeared before the court as witnesses on Tuesday.

Earlier, the court had recorded the witnesses on January 3, 7, 8, 9, 15 and 16.

AKM Nasimul Akhter, PP of the special tribunal, said the sub-inspector of Aronkhola police outpost under Madhupur upazila, Aminul Islam, who is also the plaintiff of the case, had given his statement before the court on January 3.  Probir N Kumar, member of Auronkhola UP, Rashid Mia of Jalchatra, Rahij Uddin and Abul Hossain also testified before the court on January 7. Lal Mia, Hasmot Ali, Imam Hossain and MA Rouf gave their testimony before the court on January 8.  

Hafizul Islam Pramanik, brother of Rupa, Momotaz Uddin and Abdul Barek appeared before the same court on January 9. Liton Mia, Hazrot Ali and Rubel Mia appeared on January 15. Among a total of 32 witness, 24 have so far appeared before the court to testify.

Deluwar Hossain and Shameem Chowdhury, counsels for the accused, had cross-examined the witnesses on January 3, 7, 8, 9 , 14, 15, 16 and 17, said Ataur Rahman Azad of the Manobadikar Bastobayon Committee of Tangail.

Rupa, 23, daughter of the late Jilhaj Pramanik of Asanbari village in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj district, was gang-raped in a running bus and killed on August 25. Rupa was on her way to a relative’s house in Mymensingh from Bogra after writing the teachers’ registration examination.

The rapists left her body in Madhupur jungle of Tangail district. The body could not be identified immediately. Police sent it to Tangail Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Being an unclaimed body, it was buried in Tangail graveyard.  Rupa’s brother got this information from newspapers. He went to Madhupur police station and identified his sister from photos.
