Nazmul Hassan Papon, president of Bangladesh cricket Board (BCB), on Wednesday said that their prime target at this moment is to lift the trophy of a tri-nation or multi-nation tournament what Bangladesh are yet to win.

Papon also said that they want to capitalise the chance they have and begin a New Year with cracking start

Bangladesh had played in the final of a tri-nation or multi-national tournament twice in their playing history. The first of which was Asia Cup in 2012, where Bangladesh lost to Pakistan by just two runs that still haunted Bangladesh.

Last time, they thereby played in the final of a tri-nation series in Ireland in 2017 before the ICC Champions Trophy in England. That time, they were fumbled by New Zealand.

“At this moment, it is more important for us to win the series. We, Bangladesh, are yet to triumph any trophy from a tri-nation or multi-nation tournament. Now we’ve an opportunity ahead of us,” said Nazmul Hassan.

“We went to the final of the Asia Cup but we didn’t win it by two runs. We’ve still regret for it,” Nazmul told reporters at the innings break of the second fixture of the ongoing tri-angular series between Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka yesterday.

“This time we have a chance of winning a tri-nation series. If we could start the New Year being champion, I think, there is nothing better than it. Our main concentration in this series is to champion only,” he added.

Papon was accompanied by BCB directors Mahbubul Anam, Jalal Younus, IH Mallick and Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, among others, on the occasion.

Along with that, the BCB president said that they will start building the new stadium in Purbachal after getting the final approval from the government.

“A new stadium will be built in Purbachal. We’ve targeted to build some sort of things there what we could not do it in Mirpur’s stadium. This stadium will be remained intact. It’ll be center of all and that the rest will be transferred there,” he said.

“The update of the Purbachal stadium is that the issue of the land which was told by the government to handover to the BCB after getting the approval from different related ministries. Finally it goes to the PM office from the sports ministry. It’s now almost the end of the process. We’ve to take a final decision to sit with all the stake holders,” he added.

BCB had long planning to build a museum to restore the history and different things as memoirs but it does not come into effect despite being different spray efforts.

When it was drawn to the BCB president attention, Papon said that what they have planning to do it there is no such facilities here in Mirpur. But he said that they want to do something within this small scale.

“Definitely we have thinking about it. We’ve already started working. Unfortunately the manner we have wanted to do it, no such facility is absence here. Even we’ve not got enough space here,” he said, adding: “If you look at foreign stadiums, you’ll see they have good space and facility to build such museum. Still we’re planning so they can use the maximum of it to build here .We’ve formed a committee.”

There is an uncertainty over holding the next Asia Cup in India. When asked about it if it is not held in India, in that case, Bangladesh have any possibility to host the tournament. BCB boss said that they will try to avail that chance if they ever get any chance for hosting it.

“As per the schedule, it is still in India. If it is not held in India, in that case, we’ll see the matter,” he answered to a media query.
