A film’s purpose can never be to entertain the audience with cheap recreations; besides entertainment, the main purpose of the film should be to make awareness among the people, prominent director Tauquir Ahmed shared his thoughts about the purpose of films at a press meet arranged by the organisers of the Dhaka international Film festival 2018.

“I always want to tell the story of the people through my films; I make films to aware the people. I want to make films that have an effect on society and politics,” he added.

Tauquir Ahmed also spoke about his latest film ‘Haldaa’, which is also participating in the festival in Bangladesh Panorama section.

He said, “Audience has admired ‘Haldaa’ in the cinema halls. But the reactions between the hall audience and the festival audience are different. I will be waiting for the reactions. ”

On the other hand, Indian Filmmaker Aparajita Ghosh shared her thoughts on the festival, “I’m amazed by this country’s heart warming hospitality. Besides the excellent experience of the festival, my one of the biggest achievement is the full hearted love from the people.”

“I didn’t feel like a guest here, I felt more like an organiser of the festival,” she added.

Iranian young filmmaker Masoumeh Noormohammadi said, “Seeing the love, ambient and the festival here, I feel like I’m still is Tehran.”

Acclaimed Bangladeshi short film titled ‘Pounopunik’ (The Hamster Wheel Rebellion) directed by Khandakar Sumon will be screened today at 5pm at the Sufia Kamal Auditorium of the National Museum.
