Bumper carrot production likely in Hatiya

Growers of different shoal areas in Noakhali district are expecting bumper production of carrot this year.
According to sources in the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), high-yield seeds and modern technology along with support from the DAE are making farmers optimistic about the good yield.
This year almost 27,900 hectares of arable land have been brought under carrot cultivation in Sadar and Hatiya upazilas of the district. In Hatiya, growers are expecting yield of 46,000 metric tonnes of carrot only in Hatiya upazila.
Shahidul Islam, agriculture officer of Sadar upazila said marginal farmers are being inspired by the DAE officials as they are providing high-yield seeds and training.
M Nasimul Haque, an eminent agriculturalist said once farmers of this area were dependent on cultivation of paddy, but now they are eagerly cultivating carrot because of its high yield.
Suchitra Sen remembered in Pabna
PABNA: Super heroin Suchitra Sen was remembered in Pabna today in her 4th death anniversary, reports BSS.
A commemoration was held morning at Pabna Govt Girls High School where Suchitra studied. Pabna district administration and Suchitra Sen Smriti Sangrakhon Parishad jointly organized the commemoration with the help of Cultural Affairs Ministry.
Suchitra Sen was born on April 6 in 1931 at Bhanga Bari village in Belkuchi Upazila of present day Sirajganj district in Bangladesh. The Partition, that created India and Pakistan in 1947, brought her family
and her to West Bengal.
She was appeared opposite Uttam Kumar in Sharey Chuattor’ of Nirmal Dey in 1950s. Uttam and Suchitra became the icons for Bengali movies for more than 20 years. She was the first Indian actress who received an award at an international film festival in Moscow in 1963.
Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin presided over the ceremony while Additional Police Super Gautom Kumar Biswas, Ram Dulal Bhowmic, Marufa Monjury, Kazi Atiur Rahman and Shibjit Nag spoke among others. A floral wreath was placed at her portrait in the town on the eve of the commemoration. Suchitra died on this day in 2014.
Youth stabbed dead in Bogra
BOGRA: A youth was stabbed to death in an attack by some miscreants at Subgramhat Panchrasta crossing in the district town early yesterday, reports BSS.
The victim was identified as Sahinur Rahman, 34, a motor garage owner, resident of Subgram Kursapara in Sadar upazila. Additional superintendent of police Sanatan Chakraborty said the drug addicted miscreants attacked Sahinur over a trifle matter at about 2.30am and stabbed him, leaving Sahinur critically injured.
Locals rescued and sent him to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where on duty declared him dead. Police arrested two persons in this connection.
Two ‘arms peddlers’ arrested

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested two alleged illegal arms peddlers with a pistol, one shooter gun, a magazine and 23 rounds of bullet from Dhansura area under Nachole upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Tuesday afternoon.
The arrested persons are Md. Mojibur Rahman, 46, son of late Sohrab Ali of Ranihati village under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district and Md. Palash, 32, son of Khan Mohammad of Kachari Dampura village under Niamatpur upazila of Naogaon district.
RAB said, acting on secret information, an operation team of RAB from Rajshahi Mollapara camp raided Dhansura area around 4-30 pm and arrested the duo with the arms and ammunition.
