Activists and leaders of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) have allegedly threatened to suspend and beat up their fellow students who protested against the assault on general students demanding that Dhaka University sever its ties with seven affiliated colleges.
On Monday, BCL activists had swooped down on the students staging a sit-in in front of the Dhaka University vice-chancellor’s office. Several activists of the student front said, on condition of anonymity, that BCL leaders have been threatening them for their crticism of the BCL assualt on social networking sites.
Meanwhile, Moshiur Rahman Sadik, who led the movement, is being quizzed at Shahbagh police station for his alleged involvement in an attempt to “destabilise the university”.
Shahbagh police station officer-in-charge Abul Hossen said they are interrogating Sadik because the university authorities handed him over to them. Dhaka University proctor Golam Rabbani said that law enforcers are interrogating Sadik for his alleged attempts to destabilise the university.
The general students, under the banner of ‘Students Protesting Assault’ and ‘Leftist students’, will hold separate protest rallies today in demand of the punishment of the attackers.
