At least 38 members of three notorious Sundarbans coastal forest robber gangs of ‘Borobhai Bahini’, ‘Bhaibhai Bahini’ and ‘Sumon Bahini’ surrendered to law enforcers at Barisal RAB-8 headquarters yesterday afternoon. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan was chief guest at the programme. Wing commander Emon Al Razib, commanding officer of RAB-8 presided over the function. They also handed over 38 local and foreign firearms and 2,969 bullets. They were active in Sharonkhola, Chandpai Range, Mongla, Harbaria, Vandra, Poshur, Jumar Rivers and coastal belt of Bay of Bengal and Sundarban forest region, said RAB-8 sources.
Borobhaai, Bhaibhai and Sumon Bahinis were three of the biggest notorious forest robber gangs in Sundarbans coastal area’ said RAB-8 statement.
While addressing the home minister said “We're welcoming those who want to return to normal life realising their mistakes. At the same time, we’re warning those who are still involved in robbery. We'll take stern actions against them.”
The minister hoped that the surrendered robbers would return to normal life soon.
