Nation sets to observe the 39th death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam across the country today, reports BSS.
On this day (12 Bhadra of Bangla calendar year) in 1976, he breathed his last at the then PG Hospital now Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital. The Poet was buried with state honour beside Dhaka University Central Mosque.
Different political parties, socio-cultural-professional bodies have chalked out elaborate programmes in observance of the Poet’s death anniversary.
The national hook-ups, Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television, and other private sector television channels and radio stations will air special programmes while the national dailies will publish special supplements marking the day.
According to a press release of Dhaka University, the programmes of the day will start with Quran Khwani after Fazr prayers at Dhaka University Central Mosque that will be followed by a rally of teachers-students-officers-employees of the university in front of the sculpture ‘Aparajeo Bangla’ from where vice-chancellor of the university will lead a march at 7-15 am to place wreaths at the grave of the poet.
Besides, Fateha (special prayers) will be offered at the Poet’s grave where a discussion will be held with the vice-chancellor of the university in the chair.
The programme of the ruling Awami League to mark the day includes placing of wreaths, offering of Fateha and doa at the Poet’s grave at 8 am.
