Stocks rebound on favourable economic data

BSS

Stock market rebounded yesterday, arresting the fall that continued in the last three consecutive trading sessions and taking the turnover to a two-month low, reports BSS.
The broader price index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) eased up to 4805.65 with 12.72 points gain when the blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES closed marginally up at 1837.97 and 1183.67 respectively.
Market analysts said investors’ expectation from the monthly data was the driving force in the market that resulted in rebound in price indices despite continual lackluster trading. The daily trade value was down at Tk 431.56 crore, with the volume following it to 10.99 crore shares.
Investors were watchful about monthly economic data, which might help shift fund flow to the stock market from the government’s saving tools”, said the Lanka Bangla Securities Limited, pointing to the fall in sale of the government savings certificates because of their declining interest rates.
Out of the day’s traded 319 securities, 146 gained, with DBH, NHFIL, Prime Insurance, Global Insurance and Hakkani Pulp on top of the advancing issues.  Bank, cement, textile, fuel and power and telecom were the day’s major advancing issues.
The major lagging sectors were mutual fund and tannery when 114 issues closed lower. The most losing securities included FBFIF, Standard Insurance, NCCBLMF1, ICB3rdNRB and BD Welding.
Square Pharma topped the turnover list followed by Islami Bank, SPCL, AL-Haj Tex, Ifad Autos and Apex Tannery. Like DSE, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also recovered on Wednesday when its major CSCX index advanced by 20.84 points to finish the day at 8961.87.
A total of 80 lakh shares worth Taka 27.35 crore changed hands on the day when 64 issues closed higher and 122 lower among traded 246 securities.
