Ali Riaz made Distinguished Professor at Illinois State University
Professor of Politics and Government Ali Riaz and Professor of Geology David Malone have been named Distinguished Professors by the Office of the Provost at Illinois State University, USA.
They will be honored at Illinois State University’s annual Founders Day Convocation on February 15, according to the university. Prof Riaz began his career at Illinois State in 2002, becoming a full professor in 2008. He served as chair of the Department of Politics and Government from 2007-2017, and was named University Professor in 2012.
Riaz has received numerous awards from the College of Arts and Sciences including outstanding teacher, scholar, researcher and the Excellence in Teaching award from Pi Sigma Alpha. The prolific scholar has published 17 books in English, 12 in Bengali, and numerous articles and book chapters.
Spring 2018 semester orientation held at IUB
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) implemented its Spring 2018 semester’s orientation programme for newly admitted undergraduate students yesterday on the campus in the capital, says a press release.

ULAB signs MoU with ACE
The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) signed an MoU with ACE (AKS Khan Centre for Excellence) of Dhaka, Bangladesh recently on the ULAB campus, says a press release.
AK Shamsuddin Khan, chairman, signed on behalf ACE and Prof. Imran Rahman, special advisor to the Board of Trustees, signed on behalf of ULAB.
ULAB and ACE have agreed to stimulate and support educational, professional and intellectual activities between the two institutions and its respective communities. These activities include: internship opportunities, job placements and industry attachments for ULAB students, both locally and internationally, collaborative joint programmes, exchange of ideas, cultural exchange and co-operative research and development projects. Drama festival begins at SUST
SHAHJALAL UNIVERSITY: A four-day long drama festival titled ‘Bandhaner Bish, Valobasa Aharnish’ began at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Thursday.
‘Theatre SUST’, a drama organisation, organised the 6th edition of the festival along with a reunion programme for the first time marking its 20-year anniversary.
Prof Dr Ilias Uddin Biswas inaugurated the programme at university’s Muktamanch around 2pm while Prof Dr Himadri Shekhor Roy, Prof Amina Parvin were, among others, present. Some stage dramas—‘Hason Raja’, ‘Condemned Cell’, ‘Manipuri Theatre’ and ‘Ingal Adhar Pala’—will be staged gradually every day at central auditorium, said Sabbir Ahmed Raju, convener of the festival.
