Rahmatganj MFS escaped from the relegation after 2-0 victory over Saif Sporting Club in the Saif Power Battery Bangladesh Premier League football yesterday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Rahmatganj MFS and their neighbouring team Farashganj Sporting were in danger zone of relegation when the former survived at the cost of the latter.
Farashganj Sporting Club, who finished the league with 17 points while Rahmatganj had 15 points and one match to play against Saif SC and badly needed to earn full three points. The Old Dhaka outfit made it success after defeating Saif.
There were so much talking about the Sheikh Jamal-Farashganj match when the latter won the match by 3-1 which was something unusual result. The win lifted Farashganj’s points to 17, which brightened their chance to avoid the relegation but the other relegation strugglers Rahmatganj MFS was just two points behind them and they needed full three points from the last match against Saif Sporting today to skip away from the relegation.
Whatever was talking outside the field, Saif conceded two goals inside half an hour mark and first one in the very second minute, just egged on the fans’ doubts with the match.
Though the players of the Saif Sporting not looked to give up effortlessly but they were under pressure almost throughout 90 minutes time as, Rahamtganj had better possession.
However, on the day, Rahmatganj, who have been passing tough times from the beginning, could not get rid of the troubles, as ultimately they plunged into the relegation threat.
Rahamtganj opened the scoring inside two minutes after the first whistle when Saddam Hossain’s free kick from outside the box was not fully cleared as after a header of defender came to Naimur Rahman Shahed way who just volleyed home over the goalkeeper (1-0), seemingly that if keeper would jump could have gripped the ball.
After taking the lead, Rahmatganj was playing with better domination and doubled the advantage on 34th minute and this was initiated from Saddad’s throw in when Mohammed Sohel got the possession inside the area and his right footer went into near post (2-0). Rahmatganj head coach Kamal Ahmed Babu, in the post match reaction told the reporters about some controversy with the match that it was fully out of any doubt and it was fair match.
