Sabbir aims to break century jinx in ODI

Bangladesh all-rounder Sabbir Rahman Rumman on Saturday said that he girds up his loins to break the jinx of century what he is yet to do despite playing so many matches in one-day international wearing the Tigers jersey.

The 26-year-old right-handed batsman said that he is bolstering his soft spot what he had in the past to fulfill his hundred.

Sabbir played so far 46 one-day internationals after being his one day debut against Zimbabwe in Chittagong in 2014.

“Like you all I’m disappointed at not to make hundred in one-day cricket. But I’m toiling hard for century,” said Sabbir Rahman.

“I’m also trying so that I could do it maintaining my aggressive intent,” Sabbir told reporters after their intense practice session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur yesterday.

“Personally I am well prepared though last few matches were not gone well for me. I’m trying to bolster the areas where I had weakness. Actually, I’ve worked on it. Let’s see now what can I do in the matches I have ahead,” he added.

Rumman thinks that there is a relation of luck with getting runs or not. But he differs with the common notion as he said if anyone could not make runs as many said his technique is not good but if he makes runs then it’s good in technique. That’s not the matter.

He said, “I’ve worked on spin and front foot. Actually I did it alone at nets. I’ve tried to recover the weakness I have. It’s a matter of luck to get more runs in the match.”

The right-hander said that he is focusing only on his games so that he could finish the game if he sets in wickets.

“It’s not a matter of temperament. My playing style is aggressive. When I used to bat at number 3 position the matter was then different. But I’ll now play at No. 6 or 7. It’s a matter of team management,” he said, adding: “While I’ll get chance to play, I’ll try to play as per the consequence of the match. Now I’m thinking on myself how I should play. If I am in wickets I’ll try to finish the match.”

When asked about his demerit points, Sabbir said that he has no thinking about it as he focuses how he could play better cricket in the tri-nation home series.

“Actually, I don’t think much about negative thought at this moment. Even I don’t mull about my demerit points what I got. I’m try to play better cricket in this series,” he answered.

“I don’t think in that way. Those who could take more challenge and absorbed more pressure they will have possibility of doing well in the series,” he thought.
