A Chittagong court yesterday sentenced two officials, including a former engineer of T&T, to 10-year rigorous imprisonment on charge of cheque forgery.
Chittagong Divisional Special Judge Mir Ruhul Amin passed the order.
The sentenced are: Kamrul Hasan, former divisional engineer of T&T and Md Hossain, upper class assistant of T&T.
According to the case documents, the then two officials of T&T misappropriated Tk 64 lakh through cheque forgery after withdrawing a bill of T&T from Bangladesh Bank from May 10 to August 9 of 1993.
AKM Nurul Huda Azad, the then inspector of the Anti Corruption Bureau filed the case against the two officials with the city’s Double Mooring police station on October 30, 1999.
Humayun Kabir, deputy assistant director of Anti Corruption Commission submitted the chargesheet on June 26, 2012. The court framed the charge on May 30, 2013.
The court handed down the verdict yesterday after recording deposition of 7 persons.
The court sentenced the two persons to rigorous imprisonment under two different sections (5 years for each section).
The court mentioned that the sentence under two different sections will be implemented simultaneously. The convicted duo is now absconding.
