CHITTAGONG: A court here yesterday issued a warrant for the arrest of Chittagong north district unit BNP convener Aslam Chowdhury in a case filed over cheque fraud, reports UNB.
Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Shahenur passed the order as the BNP leader was absent at the court during the hearing on the case.
Public Prosecutor Advocate M Fakhruddin said the BNP leader had given a cheque of TK 11.97 lakh to one Helal Uddin on business purpose.
As Helal went to the local branch of Bank Asia for encashing the cheque, the bank authorities refused to provide money due to inadequate balance in the bank account.
On February 28, 2014, Helal Uddin filed a case over the cheque fraudulence. The BNP leader, however, secured bail from the court in the case on July 27, 2014.
But, the hearing on the case deferred for the 10th time due to the absence of the BNP leader, said Fakhruddin.
