Man lynched in Kushtia

An alleged thief was lynched at Noudapara village in Kushtia Sadar upazila early yesterday.
The deceased was Taslim Uddin Khan, 35, of Khejurtala village.
Locals said Taslim was caught by the residents of the house of Amod Ali where he went to steal cows.
On information, villagers rushed in and beat him up. He died on the spot.
Later, police recovered his body and sent it to Kushtia General Hospital for an autopsy, said officer-in-charge of Islamic University police station Shafiqul Islam.
3 crude bombs recovered
STAFF REPORTER, Sirajganj
Police recovered three crude bombs, four bottles of nitric acid and huge quantity of gun power from a house at Monoharpur village in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj yesterday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Tarash police station raided the house of Jiaur Rahman in Monoharpur village and seized the inflammable substances. At that time, police nabbed the house owner Jiaur Rahman, 32, for possessing those things.
Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tarash police station said they suspected that the crude bombs were kept in the house to conduct subversive activities in the area. A case was lodged with the respective police station in this connection.
BGB seizes Indian goods

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled Indian goods worth over Tk 5 crore raiding a house at Buinkara in Nawapara industrial town on Monday, said Lt Col Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer of 26 Border Guard Battalion.
The BGB official said on secret information, BGB men raided the residence and seized smuggled sarees, three-pieces, spices and tea worth over Tk 5 crore.
Litu Begum, owner of the goods, however, claimed that the worth of the goods is Tk 1 crore and she had legal documents against it.
Two drug peddlers jailed

A mobile court in Jhenidah sentenced two drug peddlers to one year imprisonment each for selling and consuming drugs at Foraspur village in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenidah yesterday.
The convicts were Boltu Das, 46, and Mahbubur Rahman Sobuj, 22, of Foraspur village in Kaliganj upazila.
Acting on a tip-off, police launched a drive at houses of both the arrestees and seized hemp from their possession.Later, a mobile court led by assistant commissioner of land Shahnaz Parvin pronounced the verdict.
Farmer killed by lightning

A farmer was killed by lightning at Vallipara village in Boda upazila of Panchagarh yesterday morning.
The deceased was Soleman 28, of the village. Eye witnesses said a thunderbolt struck them while Soleman and his wife Pervin were working in a field in the rain. Soleman died on the spot and his wife Pervin became critically injured. Locals rushed them to Boda health complex.
