Moudud finds ‘camera trial’ in Khaleda graft case

Describing the trial process in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case as a 'camera trial', Barrister Moudud Ahmed, a counsel of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, yesterday said this is a 'political trial' under the cover of the criminal law, reports UNB. He came up with the allegation taking part in hearing on the 10th day of placing arguments in the graft case at the Dhaka Special Court-5 of Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman in Bakshibazar.

Moudud said this case is a false one and there was no acceptability of the case since the beginning. "The case was filed showing fake documents out of political vengeance only to annihilate the nationalist democratic force," he added.

Addressing the judge, Moudud said, "We have faith in you. We hope you'll pass a fair verdict." Earlier in the day, the argument placing resumed after Khaleda Zia appeared at the court at 11:04am.

On July 3, 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman, and four others for misappropriating over Tk 21 million (2.10 crore) that came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
