A three-day Selim Al Deen Memorial Festival-2018 will kick off today at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital, reports UNB. Troupe Dhaka Theatre in association with Bangladesh Gram Theatre will organise the festival marking the legend's death anniversary on January 14.
As part of the festival, a seminar will be held on the first day in the conference room (7th Floor) of the National Theatre where Masum Reza will present the keynote speech.
Yusuf Hasan Arak, Sadhana Ahmed, Masud Imran Mannu, Sohel Hasan Galib, Abu Saeed Tulu and Altaf Shahnewaj will join the seminar as discussants.
The organisers will place wreaths at the graveyard of the late playwright at Jahangirnagar University (JU).
Dhaka Theatre will stage Selim Al Deen's play 'Nimajjan' directed by Nasiruddin Yusuf and 'Dhaboman' directed by Shimul Yousuf in the evening at the National Theatre Hall of BSA on January 13 and 14 respectively.
Selim Al-Deen was born on August 18 in 1949 and died on January 14 in 2008.
He was the founder chairperson of the Department of Drama and Dramatics at JU and made the significant contribution to Bengali drama.
Selim Al-Deen is considered as one of the pioneers of street theatre in Bangladesh. l
