Sunzamul tries to be part of Bangladesh nat’l team

Spin bowler Sunzamul Islam on Wednesday said that he is eyeing to burst into the best eleven of the Bangladesh team in the upcoming Bangladesh-Sri Lanka-Zimbabwe Tri-nation ODI series. Along with that, Sunzamul also said that he will attempt his utmost best to consolidate his place in the national team with the series.

The 27-year-old spinner toed off his footstep in international cricket with one-day when Bangladesh toured to Ireland in 2017 before the start of the ICC Champions Trophy, England 2017. He had played against the hosts Ireland and grabbed two wickets giving away 22 runs in five overs. And then the left-arm-spinner is yet to get any opportunity to play for the Tigers.

The spinner was consistent in performing at domestic circuit. He played Dhaka Premier League (DPL) for Abahani Limited and National Cricket League (NCL) for Rajshahi Division.

In the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Sunzamul for Chittagong Vikings claimed 11 wickets that drew the attention of the selectors, who picked him as additional spinner after Shakib Al Hasan and Mehedi Hasan Miraj.

“Actually, it’s not frustrating because I had dropped from the team after playing the first match due to the condition. Then I’ve tried to learn so many things,” said Sunzamul Islam.

“By applying those things, I once again recalled from the team. I’ll try my best to do something better further and to be a regular player of the team. That’s my target,” Sunzamul told reporters after their batting session at the Sher-e-bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) yesterday.

Sunzamul, the potential spinner in the current line-up, said that he will attempt his all-out best to establish him as a striking spinner of the Bangladesh team besides the No. 1 all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.

“(Arafat) Sunny was doing better for the team after the departure of (Abdur) Razzak bhai. Now the chance comes to me. I’ll try to give my best effort to establish me a spinner of the Bangladesh team so that I could stand besides Shakib bhai,” he viewed. He said that the performance at domestic cricket competition make a big boost of the confidence of the players.

“Performance at domestic cricket is very important. The more you play games at domestic cricket the more you will be experienced because a good competition is held in our domestic cricket league. If we could do well, it’ll then be a big boost of the confidence of the players,” he said.

“Still I’m learning. I had earlier tactical problems. I’ve worked on those. There is a gulf of difference in watching the international games on TV than playing in the field. I’m trying to understand it. I’m learning those things and then apply to match if I get chance to play.”

When asked if he learns any technique from the spin bowling coach, the spinner, who is eagerly waiting to get another chance to prove his potential, said that what he learns from his coach he tries to apply it in practice so that he could make his habituation on it.

“He (Sunil Joshi) regularly guides me how to bowl against batsmen and how to bowl in the consequence of the match. We’re working on those and later try to apply it in practice,” he said.
