Police Bureau of Investigation on (PBI) on Tuesday arrested a leader of sugar-mill workers' union in a case filed over setting fire to the houses of Santal community during the eviction drive in Gobindaganj upazila in 2016, reports UNB.
A PBI team arrested Ruhul Amin from Joypurpara in Gobindaganj upazila in the evening, said additional superintendent of police of Gaibandha PBI Anwar Hossain.
Ruhul Amin was involved in the attack on the Santal community houses at Bagda Farm on November 6, 2016, said the additional SP.
Three Santal men were killed and 30 people, including nine policemen, injured following a clash between law enforcers and workers of Rangpur Sugar Mills in Gobindaganj upazila on that day.
The clash broke out when workers of Rangpur Sugar Mills along with police went to Bagda Farm area to reclaim land of the sugar mill allegedly occupied by the Santal community.
Several houses of the minority community were also torched.
On November 17, Swapan Murmu, a member of the community, filed a case against 600 people in connection with the attack.
