Captivated by watching Desh Natok’s acclaimed play ‘Nityapuran’, talented model-actress Sushama Sarker joined the very troupe. Beginning her journey in the theatre world with this troupe, Sushama acted on the stage for the next few consecutive years. She acted in Desh Natok’s plays ‘Jonme Jonmantor’ and ‘Birsa Kabya’ during her involvement with the troupe.
But meanwhile, over the last 10 years, Sushama was unable to make time for the theatre as she had to remain very busy with her family and TV productions. Now, after many years, when she received a proposal from Masum Reza, writer and director of the play, for portraying the role of Draupadi in ‘Nityapuran’, Sushama agreed happily right away.
Earlier, the role of Draupadi was played by Shirin Khan Moni, Naznin Hasan Chumki and Bonna Mirza in different times. This time around, Sushama Sarker is the latest name for the much-talked-about character.
Director Masum Reza said that ‘Nityapuran’ was first brought to the stage 18 years ago.
Sushama Sarker is set to return on stage after 10 years. To present herself fittingly in the role, Sushama has been working very hard since last six months, while she worked really hard for the last two days to put herself in order for the play. ‘Nityapuran’ will be staged today at 7pm at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital.
Sushama said about performing in ‘Nityapuran’, “I am returning to the stage after long 10 years. Only I can realise how I am passing every moment right now. I express my humble gratitude to Masum Reza. If he didn’t come up with the proposal, I wouldn’t have acted in ‘Nityapuran’. Above all, without his courage, I might have not returned to the stage. I have tried to nurture the role of Draupadi inside me. Now the audience will see the rest. But I am confident that I would be able to portray the character appropriately.”
On the other hand, Sushama has recently completed the shooting of the film ‘Roudrachhaya’ directed by Bulbul Jilani. Besides, she is currently working in Nurul Alam Atiq’s film ‘Peyarar Subas’.
