Weather improves as mercury rises

The chilling weather condition improved further yesterday with the rise in mercury though the cold spell, now sweeping the country, may continue for 2-3 more days, reports UNB.

According to the Met office, the country's lowest temperature of 5.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Chuadanga yesterday, which was 4.8 degrees Celsius in Dinajpur on Tuesday while the highest temperature 25.8 degree Celsius was recorded in Teknaf of Cox's Bazar.

With the rise in the mercury, the intensity of cold will go down further, said Md Shahinul Islam, a meteorologist at Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

The Met office said a severe cold wave is sweeping the Jessore and Kushtia regions while a mild to moderate one across Rajshahi, Rangpur, Barisal and Mymensingh divisions. The remaining parts of Khulna division and the regions of Faridpur, Madaripur, Tangail, Sreemangal, Sitakunda, Comilla and Feni were also experiencing the moderate cold wave.

The current cold wave is likely to continue as a mild to moderate one at places over the country, the Met office said, adding that moderate to thick fog may occur over the country during midnight till morning, and it may continue till noon over north-western part of the country. The night temperature may rise slightly, while the day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

Tentulila upazila of Panchagarh district, which experienced the lowest-ever temperature in the country's history with 2.6 degree Celsius on Monday, saw 7 degrees Celsius of temperature on Wednesday.
