BNP leaders yesterday slammed JSD for its role during the pre-1975 era saying that JSD took the extra-constitutional path to oust the then AL government. “BNP believe in democratic movement. We always oppose the path taken by JSD during the post-independent Bangladesh,” BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan said while talking to reporters after placing wreath at the grave of late President Ziaur Rahman.
Nazrul also said the people of the country know it very well what had the role of JSD and its leaders in the murder of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He, however, said though government is blocking their all peaceful programmes, they would not choose alternative path what Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal JSD had done in 1975 to go to power.
“The government is obstructing our all programmes and activities, including party overhauling process. What alternative we can adopt when our peaceful action programmes are hampered…some parties like JSD had taken alternative, but we’re not that type of political party and we don’t want to follow that,” Nazrul said.
BNP is taking preparation to launch movement anew taking people with it to restore democracy in the country, he added.
“We will launch fresh movement by staging a big showdown after reorganising the party,” he said.
He, along with leaders of Muktijoddha Dal, a front organisation of the BNP, placed wreath at the grave to mark the founding anniversary of the organisation.
UNB adds, BNP senior leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy alleged that JSD president Hasanul Haq Inu had led an armed attack on then Home Minister Captain M Mansur Ali’s residence on March 17, 1974. “I’d involvement with JSD in 1974. We’d a decision of laying a siege to then Home Minister’s residence protesting arrest and repression. We’re not informed that an armed attack would be launched from the programme as it was the secret plan of Inu and Col Taher’s brother Anwar Hossain,” he told at the National Press Club.
Gayeshwar continued: “We’d been chanting slogans and waiting to get into the minister’s home after having permission to submit a memorandum containing our demands. But suddenly a group led by Anwar and Inu had started firing towards the residence.” Gayeshwar, a BNP standing committee member, came down hard on Inu for calling BNP chief Khaleda Zia a firebomb leader. “Inu had first introduced armed politics and terrorism against democracy in Bangladesh. It’s a historical fact.”
