MPO scheme eludes Dophakhali college for a decade

Dophakhali Technical and Business Management BM College in Tangail has remained outside the purview of the government ‘monthly pay order (MPO)’ scheme for a decade now causing financial hardship to teachers there.
The college, established in 2003 on 1.13 acres of land and secured the Technical Board
affiliation in 2005, has been recording
successes in the public examinations. Some 513 students appeared at the examination in 2012 from the college; 97 percent student came out successful in HSC courses in 2015, of which 20 students got GPA- 5. About 400 students are enrolled in various trades.
Some 11 teachers and four employees have been discharging responsibilities since the establishment of the college without salary. Taposi Rabeya, librarian of the college said; “We have been waiting for MPO for the long 12 years. Sometimes, we become frustrated. But we do not lose confidence.”
Lecturer Habibur Rahman said they have been passing a sub-human life as they are without pay for so many years.
Sajal Kumer Sarker, principal of the college said the college has all qualifications and fulfilled the criteria for obtaining the government MPO. The college is also deprived of grants for the development of the college building, he said adding the teachers and employees of the college are passing time with their families in hardship, which is very painful.
Chairman of Dhopakhali UP Kamal Hossain Talukder strongly recommends for MPO as the college helps the poor students in getting
technical education with minimum expenditure. Lutfun Nahar, upazila nirbahi officer of Dhanbari and chairman of the College Governing Body said it is necessary to bring the college under MPO.
She hopes to take steps with the help of local MP to bring the college under MPO scheme.
