Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) called 38 players in the preliminary squad ahead of the Asian Games qualifying phase to be held in Oman from March 9-16.
Besides the players three coaches also were called to report on Friday at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium.
Among the 38 players, four goalkeepers, 12 defenders, as many midfielders and 10 forwards were named in the initial non-residential camp to start from Friday.
Mahbub Harun is the head coach while Jahirul Islam Mitul and Ashiquzzaman are the two deputies of Harun.
In the 38-man squad six players are newly called in the camp they are – Sajib, Sagar, Mridul, Prosenjit of Bangladesh Air Force, Monoj Babu of Bangladesh Army while Nahian of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan.
Meanwhile, the domestic hockey has already been out of the field for almost last two years regarding the election complication of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) while some of the clubs denied to participate any competition under the previous committee of BHF when Abdus Sadeque and Khaja Rahmat Ullah were elected vice-president and general secretary respectively, after that to convince the insurgent clubs, BHF made a elected committee with changing the position of vice-president and general secretary post.
In the newly elected committee Abdus Sadque was made general secretary and Khaja Rahmat Ullah was vice-president but the procedure also could not convince the clubs to participate in the domestic competition.
However, Abdus Sadque, when talking to this correspondent yesterday said that they would take required steps by the time of the Asian Games camp of the players.
“We will take a strong step to make solution of the present crisis. Clubs want time, in fact if right now we start the players’ transfer procedure, we would not start the league or any competition by this time, I mean before the national team’s assignment in Oman for Asian Games up March 16. “I hope by this time everything would be settled, the committee would be made, which mandatory,” said Sadeque.
Bangladesh qualified in the Incheon Olympic, Korea being the champions in the qualifying round which was held in Bangladesh.
This year in the qualifying round 12 teams will compete in Oman while Bangladesh will have to play against the hosts Oman, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Iran, Azerbaijan and two other countries yet to be named.
