An eight-member Malaysian trade delegation is now visiting Bangladesh to explore opportunities in renewable energy, ICT, medical tourism, agro processing and vehicle assembling, reports UNB.
President of Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) Syed Moazzam Hossain welcomed the Malaysian business delegation led by Tan Seng Sung of TC Management Service Corporation Sdn Bhd on Monday at BMCCI office.
The BMCCI president briefed the delegation members about business scenario between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
He described potentiality of trade and investment in Bangladesh specially, in renewable energy, ICT, medical tourism, agro processing and assembling buses and trucks.
The BMCCI President said the government has a plan to go for 2400 MW power generation from renewable energy sector by 2021. At present approximately 500MW electricity comes from renewable energy, he added.
Moazzam said the government has declared that Bangladesh will be digital and ICT compliant country by 2021.
He said the BIDA along with BMCCI is going to organize ICT Showcase in April in Kuala Lumpur.
Moazzam said the government is going to set up IT parks in every corner of the country.
Regarding agro products processing and halal food sector, he said Bangladesh has huge potential in this sector.
He invited the Malaysian businesspeople to set up industry in Bangladesh and export to Malaysia and the global market where Bangladesh is getting duty free facilities.
Moazzam also encouraged the E-garage concept and invited them to start franchising in Bangladesh.
During their visit, the Malaysian trade delegation will have meetings with Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) chief, officials at the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Bangladesh Power Development Board, Power Cell, Sustainable Renewable Energy Development Board (SREDA) and Bangladesh Agro Processing Association (BAPA) and will survey markets in Dhaka and Chittagong, said the BMCCI leaders.

BMCCI Vice Presidents Raquib Mohammad Fakhrul, Syed Almas Kabir, Joint Secretary General M A Bakar and Secretary Hasanur Rahman Chowdhury were present.
The delegation will leave Dhaka January 11.
