Manikganj: Ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia route in the Padma River resumed yesterday morning after two and a half hours of disruption caused by dense fog, reports UNB.
Mohiuddin Russell, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha ghat, said they kept suspended ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia route from 5:30 am to 8 am due to blurred visibility caused by dense fog. Three ferries remained motionless in the middle of the river while 13 more remained anchored at Paturia and Daulatdia ghats. About 300 hundred vehicles, including buses, trucks and cars, remained stranded at both ghats.
Passengers suffered most as number of vehicles had to be kept waiting on both sides of the river for crossing amid cold weather. Later, ferry services resumed around 8 am as fog disappeared, said the BIWTC official.
Saddened, youth dies of heart attack after brothers death
Madaripur: A young man died of heart attack at Mollakandi village in Rajoir upazila on Sunday afternoon, hours after the death of his elder brother, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Ujjal Bepari, 25, and his brother Tota Bepari, 35, sons of Sona Miah of the village.
Locals said Tota died of illness around 10am.
While the preparation was going on for his burial, Ujjal suffered a cardiac arrest around 2pm while wailing over his brothers death.
He was taken to a hospital where he died later.
A pall of gloom descended on the village following the death of the two siblings who, according to locals, were friends to each other.
2,600 blankets distributed

A total of 2,600 blankets were distributed among distressed people at Debiganj upazila in the district.
Debiganj upazila parishad chairman Md Hasnat Zaman Chowdhury Jarje distributed the quilts among the poor people.
The chairman along with leaders and activists of Jubo League, youths front of the ruling Awami League, went to the door-to-door of the poor people and gave blankets to them in the last three days.
