The Public Service Commission (PSC) has kick-started the process to recruit a total of 4,792 doctors through special BCS by June this year. After they are recruited through the special 39th BCS examination (health cadre), they would be posted at the upazila-level health complexes to ensure medical treatment for locals in the remote areas, said sources in the health ministry and the PSC. Of the 4,792 doctors, 4,542 will be recruited as assistant surgeons and 250 as assistant dental surgeons, the sources added. For the purpose of recruitment of the doctors, the public administration ministry has prepared a proposal, to be placed before the meeting of the committee of secretaries on administrative improvement affairs, seeking its approval to issue a self-regulatory organisation (SRO) in this respect, according to the sources.

The examination controller (cadre) of the Public Service Commission (PSC), AIM Nesar Uddin, told The Independent that they will likely publish advertisements for the recruitment by March, after an SRO is issued by the public administration ministry.

“We should be able to complete the entire process of the recruitment within six months. This means we will try to recruit them by June this year,” he said.

“The PSC will also publish 40th general BCS examination (cadre) by this year,” he disclosed.

The secretary of the health and family welfare ministry, Md Sirajul Haque Khan, told this correspondent that they will post the doctors to the vacant posts, mostly at the upazila level.

“We want 5,000 more doctors through another special BCS by the end of this year,” he said, adding that “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had approved the recruitment of 10,000 doctors under special BCS exam.”

Sources said the candidates who are contesting the 39th special BCS (health cadre) will attend a written exam of multiple choice questions (MCW) worth 200 marks and a viva voce of 100 marks to qualify for the exam.
