The High Court (HC) yesterday granted anticipatory bail to Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Advocate Zainul Abedin and secretary Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokon in connection with a vandalism case. The HC bench of Justice Md Miftah Uddin Chowdhury and Justice Md Abu Taher Mohammad Saifur Rahman them for six months or until the police submit the investigation report in the case.
The HC bench delivered the order after hearing a bail petition filed jointly by Zainul and Khokon, who are also vice-chairman and joint secretary general of BNP respectively. They appeared before the court and filed the petition.
The case was filed in Shahbagh police station on January 3, accusing the BNP leaders of vandalizing vehicles and obstructing police from discharging their duties during a party protest against chairperson Khaleda Zia’s appearance before a court in Dhaka’s Bakshi Bazar.
