Dhaka court orders arrest of Selima, 13 others

Gazipur police have submitted a chargesheet against 32 BNP leaders and activists including its senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman in a case filed under the Special Powers Act, for setting a bus ablaze, carrying out bomb attacks, and vandalising vehicles. In the chargesheet, it has been claimed that Tarique Rahman hatched a conspiracy while staying in his flat in London, plotting to create violence all over the country before and after the general elections.
The investigating officer of the case found the involvement of Tarique, Monzurul Ahsan Roni, son of recently suspended Gazipur City Corporation mayor MA Mannan, and other BNP activists in the incident.
Meanwhile in Dhaka, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Imdadul Haque ordered the arrest of BNP vice-chairman Selima Rahman and 13 others yesterday after accepting the charges brought against 24 people including these 14.
Among them, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's adviser and journalist Shawkat Mahmud is on remand while her special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas and press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan are on the run while some others are on bail.
