In certification of their huge fanfare in West Bengal, several Bangladeshi artistes are performing at the 10-day Jodhpur Park Festival that kicked off in Kolkata yesterday. On the inaugural day, Rabindra Sangeet exponent Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya amazed audience with her rendition of several Tagore songs. Other than Bannya, Dr Nashid Kamal, Akhi Alamgir, Ayub Bachchu and Swapnil Sajib are also set to perform at the event.
Kamal and Bachchu are scheduled to take the stage on Monday while Sajib will perform on January 10. The chairman of the festival committee, Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay, said, “The festival is celebrating ‘Bangladesh Day’ on January 8. The invited artistes from Bangladesh will be honoured by the deputy high commissioner of Bangladesh embassy at the festival that day.”
Many prominent Indian artistes, including Jeet Ganguly, Zubeen Garg, Kunal Ganjawala, Indranil Sen, Nachiketa, Lopamudra Mitra, Rupam Islam, Chondrobindu, Raghav, Rupankar, Monomoy, Iman Chakraborty, Riddhi Bandyopadhyay, Jojo and Rituparna with Sengupta Ballet troop and many others, are also performing at the festival.
