7 cultural personalities honoured

Chhayaneer, a literary and cultural organisation honoured seven people for contribution in their respective fields at  a programme held at Poet Sufia Kamal auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum recently. Chhayaneer organised the programme marking its 30th founding anniversary.

The honoured persons included Tagore and Nazrul artiste of Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television Nishat Afza Arzoo for music, Prof Bilkis Khanam Papri for literature, Prof Dr Mirza Mazharul Islam as language veteran, while Shahana Akhter as fashion designer, sources said.

The launching ceremony of a book was also held at the event.   Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu was the chief guest while advocate Tarana Halim, state minister for Post and Telecommunications was the special guest.

Sadek Siddiquee, a film producer and play director also spoke on the occasion, among others. Eminent economist and president of Chhayaneer Dr MA Yusuf Khan chaired the evening while its executive director Md Lutfur Rahman delivered the welcome speech. The guests handed over the crests and citations to the distinguished persons. A cultural show followed the event.
