RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) is going to set up a modern slaughter house and a bio-gas plant for hygienic management of slaughterhouse wastages, reports BSS.
With the financial assistance of German Development Corporation (GIZ), the construction of Saheb Bazar Slaughter House is likely to begin within the shortest possible time, said RCC Mayor Musaddique Hossain Bulbul while visiting the site yesterday.
RCC Ward Councilors Iqbal Hossain and Rashedul Hassan, Superintendant Engineer Khandaker Khairul Bashar, Chief Conservancy Officer Sheikh Mamun and Veterinary Surgeon Dr Farhad Uddin were present there.
RCC has been implementing various need-based schemes, including construction of a new slaughter house, public toilets and management of waste, to build a modern city.
The mayor said time has come to strengthen the local government institutions and enable them to combat the spread of different types of diseases, particularly anthrax.
Both government and non-government organisations should come forward to set up modern slaughterhouses to protect the public health from various diseases including the zoonotic ones, he said.
If modern slaughterhouses are set up in urban and rural areas, many biogas plants could be established and the wastage of slaughterhouses could be managed properly and hygienically, the mayor added.
