Rajshahi University (RU) has decided to relax the commutative grade point average (CGAP) for teachers’ recruitment. The relaxation has been made for the second time over the past two years. These decisions were taken in RU's 475th syndicate meeting recently, with vice-chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan in the chair.
Syndicate member Prof KBM Mahbobur Rahman has confirmed the news. According to university rules, anyone seeking to be recruited in the post of lecturer must secure a minimum CGPA of 3.50 out of 4.00 in both honours and masters courses. The candidate must also get a GPA of 4.50 out of 5.00 in SSC and HSC examinations respectively.
However, the syndicate has decided to curtail 0.50 CGPA points for applicants for teachers’ positions in the Arts Faculty, Fine Arts Faculty and Institute of Bangladesh Studies; it is also relaxing 0.25 CGPA points for the Social Science Faculty, Business Studies Faculty and Law Faculty.
However, this relaxation will not be applicable to the recruitment of teachers for the Science Faculty, Agriculture Faculty, Life & Earth Faculty and Engineering Faculty. Candidates applying for a lecturer’s post in these faculties have to secure a CGPA of 4 out of 5 in both SSC and HSC exams.
RU has also withdrawn the sexual harassment case against Dr Rohul Amin, a teacher of the political science department and general secretary of the RU Teachers' Association. The decision has been taken on the basis of the report submitted by the probe committee headed by Prof. Akthar Faruk, Dean of the Science Faculty.
The varsity authorities have also withdrawn the sexual harassment case against Prof. Rohul Amin of the political science department.
