Hashem Khan’s special exhibition begins today

A month-long solo special exhibition of artworks by eminent Hashem Khan titled ‘Joratalir Chalchitra’ will begin today at the Kobi Sufia Kamal auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum in Shahbag of the capital. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will be present as the guests of honour at the inaugural ceremony today on the gallery premises. Presided over by Professor Borhan Uddin Khan Jahangir, Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan, artist Rafiqun Nabi and Professor Muntasir Mamun will also attend the event. Director General of Bangladesh National Museum Fayzul Latif Chowdhury will deliver welcome speech.

Born in Chandpur, Hashem Khan graduated from Faculty of Fine Arts, Dhaka University in 1961. He was a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts for 44 years and retired in 2007. As he was born and grew up in a village, his works reflect the natural beauty of the village, rural life and many other things. His drawing style is different and has made a significant contribution in the book covers and illustrations.

The renowned artist has been painting regularly since 1956 and attended about 50 exhibitions at home and abroad. His oil painting was considered as the best painting of the artists of 14 countries in Bulgaria's 8th International Oil Painting Workshop in 1989.

He was one of the leaders of introducing the Nabanna festival, spring festival, Mongol Shovajatra, and Bangla New Year celebrations, etc. Hashem Khan participated in Bangladesh’s Liberation War, and many of his artworks on the war. He received Ekushey Padak in 1992 and Independence Day Award in 2011.

The exhibition will remain open to all every day from 10:30am to 7:30pn, until January 31 (closed on Thursday).
