The high voltage match of the Saif Power Bangladesh Premier League football league between title contenders Abahani Limited and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will take place today at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
The reigning champions Abahani Limited will play the crucial match to retain the title with one point ahead of their close rivals Jamal with 48 points while Jamal will fight to overpower just from one point behind to regain the title.
However, both the giants are ready to fire up all cylinders to snatch victory. If the match would end on a draw then Abahani will have another lifeline of retaining the title with winning the last match but Jamal have no option but to win the match to remain in the race, as both sides will have one match left to play.
In the last match Jamal will have comparatively easy opponents when they will play the relegation threatened Farashganj Sporting Club. But Abahani will have a stiff hurdle when they will have to encounter Chittagong Abahani Limited as their last opponents.
Abahani coach Sattayjit Das Rupu when talking about this match with this correspondent yesterday said that they were thinking nothing but to win the match, though will have an opportunity if the match ends in draw.
“Actually, in this stage you can’t think anything but to win the match, there is no way to wait for the result of the last match.”
About their huge recovery after a big blow going down to Saif Power, which pushed back them to five points to the then table toppers Chittagong Abahani, Rupu said, “Actually it was a big upset for us, but we recovered it match by match.”
“Now it is like a knockout encounter, so who could be able to avail the chances will come to their ways, will be the winners. My boys are ready to take every challenge,” Jamal is very strong side,” said Rupu.
Mahbubur Rahman Roxy, who replaced Joseph Afusi as the head coach of Jamal just from the second match of the second leg and did not loss any match out of eight under him (Roxy) Jamal won six and drew two matches.
However, Roxy also said that they have no option but to win the match, “Actually, to us it turned into a final affair, so without win we can’t think otherwise, because you know, where we are now, if we can’t win then we will be derailed.”
“We are trying to motivate the boys and they are also excited with the match and ready to take the Abahani challenge,” said Roxy.
