Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud yesterday urged all to work together to continue development programmes of the present government by protecting democracy, reports BSS.
“The conspirators, who tried to kill democracy on January 5 (in 2014) by burning people to death, are now busy in creating instability in the country...All, including the law enforcers, will have to work together to resist them," he said, speaking at a human chain and protest programme in front of the National Press Club in the capital.
Awami Muktijoddha Projonmo League organised the programme with its President Advocate Md Asaduzzaman Durjoy in the chair.
AL Leaders Advocate Baloram Poddar, Minhaz Uddin Mintu and MA Karim and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote General Secretary Arun Sarker Rana, among others, addressed the protest programme.
Criticising BNP Chief Begum Khaleda Zia's comments on the Padma Bridge, Mahmud said around 50 per cent work of the bridge has been completed and the country's people are eagerly waiting for the completion of the much-awaited bridge.
He said the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly for the socio-economic development of the common people.
“But some people want to halt continuity of the development process by declaring to celebrate 'Democracy Killing Day'... The law enforcers will resist them with an iron hand," Mahmud added.
